In January 2012 the Cabot Fire Department took delivery of a new 2011 Pierce Saber Custom Pumper to replace the Department's 1989 Middlesex pumper. The National Fire Protection Association standards set a 20 year lifetime for a first-line pumper, after which it must be refurbished or become a reserve apparatus. Many hours went into consideration of what was needed to provide the best fire protection to the Town of Cabot with the funds available. This new Pierce engine fills the bill and has features that were unavailable 22 years ago plus many that could not have even been dreamed of back in 1989. There are too many to list here- If you are curious take a look at the NFPA 1901 Standards for fire apparatus. But listed below are just a few of the features on this new pumper which we feel will contribute to our ability to protect the residents (and visitors) of Cabot as well as enhance the safety of our firefighters:

Cummins diesel engine equipped with latest emission controls

Allison automatic transmission  for driver friendly usage

1,000 gallon poly water tank with Newton quick dump capability
1,250 GPM pump
6 seats (5 equipped for SCBA air packs)
pre-piped deck (deluge) gun capable of flowing 1000 Gpm for large fire suppression
fire suppression foam system

inlet for large diameter water supply line
all ladders, extinguishers and tools mounted inside away from rain, dirt and road salt  high intensity low current LED lighting everywhere
Numerous safety features to include:

flashing in-cab light to warn if cab or body door is open or a seat belt not fastened
back up alarm and rear mounted camera for rear "blind spot" enhance safety operation
slip resistant grab rails and steps
high visibility warning lights and rear reflective strips
fail safe door handles (so a coat sleeve can't accidentally catch a handle and accidentally open a door)

If you would like to see the apparatus, please feel free to contact us for a visit behind the white doors!
